Overview
Earmark is designed with privacy as a core principle. Your data stays on your device and in your personal iCloud account. We do not collect, store, or transmit your personal information to any servers we operate or to any third parties.
Data Stored on Your Device
All app data is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This includes:
- Your podcast subscriptions and episode library
- Playback history, positions, and listening statistics
- Playlists, starred episodes, and queue
- App preferences and settings
- Downloaded episode audio files
This data never leaves your device except through iCloud sync (described below) or when you create a device backup.
iCloud Sync
If you enable iCloud Sync in Earmark's settings, your podcast subscriptions, playback positions, played/starred status, and library data are synced across your devices using Apple's CloudKit framework. This data is stored in your personal iCloud account and is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not have access to your iCloud data.
Network Requests
Earmark connects to the internet solely for the following purposes:
- Podcast RSS feeds: To fetch and update episode listings from podcast publishers
- Episode audio: To stream or download episode audio files from podcast hosting servers
- Podcast artwork: To download cover images from podcast publishers
- Apple services: iCloud sync (CloudKit), subscription management (StoreKit), and App Store transactions
We do not operate any servers that receive your data. All network requests go directly to podcast publishers or Apple services.
No Analytics or Tracking
Earmark does not include any third-party analytics, advertising, crash reporting, or tracking SDKs. We do not collect usage data, device identifiers, or behavioral information of any kind.
Subscriptions
Earmark Plus subscriptions are managed entirely through Apple's App Store. Payment processing, billing, and subscription management are handled by Apple. We do not receive or store your payment information. See Apple's Privacy Policy for details on how Apple handles transactions.
Children's Privacy
Earmark does not knowingly collect any personal information from children. Since we collect no personal information from any user, the app is suitable for all ages.
Changes to This Policy
If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update this page with the new effective date. Continued use of Earmark after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
